    Most high performance diesel engines that run 60+ pounds of boost usually have a lower compression ratio to keep the head on the engine.. SO when the engine is starting you obviousley don’t have the boost to make the engine run right, so yes you get unburnt diesel and white smoke. Diesel engines use the heat of the compression to ignite the fuel, so if you have a lower compression ratio you will have a hard time starting the engine.. Ever try to start a weak diesel on a cold day

    The white smoke is probably because of the water injection, but it’s rare to see the water injection turned on at idle, usually it’s turned on when pushed down the throtle.

    They lower the static compression ratio to keep from blowing heads, head gaskets etc…. not because it allows to more fuel and air to fill the cylinder.

    thats not thru!! read the other comments, power in this engine’s is coming from the max turbo boost , the more air you can get in the cilinder, the more feul you can combust, the higher the explosion force!, in normal diesels you can’t get as hy forces by max turbo pres!, , its nothing like a normal diesel!!

    850dan: nobody even makes a 2-stroke diesel for automotive/over the road truck use anymore they were useless lag pigs no power and leaked more oil than they could hold.

    White smoke was from really low compression pistons 10:1 not enough compression to fire over the diesel fuel until the cylinder get hot. The lower the compression the more room there is in the cylinder to fill with diesel and high boost pressure from the turbos. All really high performance diesel engines de-compress like this.

    When they take out these powers from a diesel engine they lower compression as much as possible.
