Blaine Johnson died at the 1996 US Nationals i think. The same year that this video was taken. Blaine’s wreck is on You Tube somewhere? I’ve seen it a couple of times. I believe his tire blew on the top end.

I was at this event. It was pretty impressive to see Scott flip like that. We visited his trailer afterward, and my dad, a drag racer himself, asked why he stayed on the throttle, even after he flipped.
He told my father,. ” I knew Blaine smoked his tires, I was trying to win the race!”
Scott was a true racer, He and Blaine will be missed.

This was a live show. Steve Evans was never in the booth for live shows; he was always at the end of the track to talk to drivers on live shows. I remember watching this. It was Ralph Sheheen in the booth, Bob Frey on the starting line, and Steve Evans at the far end.
