To me the only thing that spoilt US cars in the 70’s was the lack of power, due to tight government controls. I love the styling of those old Lincoln continentals, and early 70’s Impalas and Pontiac grandprixs and Bonnevilles, and chrysler Newyorker.
I owned a 77 Newyorker two years ago, and even now in the 21st century, you still feel like king of the road driving it here in the UK, dwarfing all those tiny BMWs LOL

It’s like in the 70’s, if you drove a Cadillac or Lincoln around the UK, people thought you were a TV or music star or a company director.
Even on British cop TV show in the 70’s , American cars featured alot.

Thats true. In europe in the 70’s you had to buy something very expensive to get Aircon and electric windows and power steering. At those were options or standard with cheaper or mid range US cars.
My dad told me that his old boss in the 70’s and 80’s had 76 Lincoln continental, as well as other big old yank cars.
Hahaha yeah, good …
Hahaha yeah, good point the American cars were junk but junk built with pride and quality… lol thanks
LoL okay but I am …
LoL okay but I am speaking from my POV as an Amercan… My POV tells me American cars of the 70’s were just junk, it’s nice to know that there was a sound of junk all over the world though

Hi. I visited Europe very often during the 80s, since I had relatives there…and I can assure you that I saw European crappy cars of all sorts. Few of them had power steering, AC or power windows, features that were already standard in most American cars by that time. Many Europeans would have “killed” to own that Lincoln. British cars such as the Austin Montego or the Rover 800 were nothing but garbage.
Don´t believe everything you´re told about European cars!!!

We didn’t try to get rid of our British cars in the 70’s…they got rid of themselves.
At least 70’s American cars still after 30+ years.
Look at the Jag XJS. When they were released in the 70’s ,not even the directors Jag wanted them as company cars, they were that bad.
Austin Princess and Ambassadors were so poor, that less then 10 years later, over half were scrapped.
Out of 400+ thousand Ambassadors built, only 40-ish are still on the road.
lol oh yeah, well …
lol oh yeah, well you would know better than I would I never followed british cars that closely… Good to know that though…
@nowthisisstupid …
@nowthisisstupid the funny thing is that British cars of the ’70s were just as bad if not worse!!
Look nobody needs …
Look nobody needs to get offended by this video or try to offend anyone else… Cars here in America still suck from the 70’s lol, and yes they are still around believe me we have tried to get rid of them… That’s when the EPA in all it’s wisdom said hey lets add things to vehicles that makes them run like James Earl-Jones and make them look like a shoe factory… Yeah they sucked in every way, the 70’s is a time I would like to forget in U.S. auto history forever and ever…

@VoodooConcept
Nooo, Voodoo, it´s not about American pride at all….you should omit Voodoo and change your name to IntelligentConcept, and then maybe you could understand our American sharp irony…one day I´ll suggest to the Federal Government that we should give every Britisher entering the US a golden card with the following text printed on it:
“Welcome to the US. We´re honored to confer the title of Our World´s Favorite asslickers on you”….it´s just irony.
@bit1564
You …
@bit1564
You know, bit1564, most limeys love talking to horses, so they have eventually developped the ability to neigh like them.
Limeys don´t speak, but they neigh…in a similar way to Margaret Thatcher having sex with a greasy corncob in the middle of a blizzard…you neigh like that too?
FUCK YOU
YOU
@DuncanLafayette …

ah. a sight to behold. the bruised ego of the american nation in full force here. The country that destroys cultures, under the weight of its tremendously fat customers.

I agree, but don’t tell anyone!
That said, it doesn’t mean they’re ALL crap!
it is a terrible …
it is a terrible car though, there is no doubt of that..
@xRamxRod,
Jeremy …
@xRamxRod,
Jeremy knows NOTHING about American cars so it’s not surprising he’s got the year wrong! He is just a dickhead who obviously hates anything that doesn’t come from Germany.
We American car owners would do well to just humour the idiot. It’s interesting though, to see him slowly turning into one of those fat, ugly Americans he’s always slagging off! Lol.
i like jeremy, but …
i like jeremy, but hes wrong, the lincoln town car which he is driving started production in 1982, not the late 70’s
Clarkson is biased. …
Clarkson is biased.. how many times have we heard how great a car is just because its British…. He knocks the american cars quality in this vid as well… i find that hilarious considering the UK had the WORST garbage cars in the 70’s/80’s…that resulted in Britain no longer having a proper auto industry.
When i think of the worst cars i’ve ever owned. two names come to mind. Triumph and MG.. both horribly underpowered and in constant need of repair..Fuck you Lucas Electrics
