How can i get started drag racing?

I want to get started drag racing, using a late 60′s or early 70′s muscle car. i can find the car and do the work to it, but i have no clue where to start getting involved with that racing part of it. any pointers?

go to your local track on an all street nite
grudge racing or whatever your track calls it
maybe try a test and tune session
just to get familiar with the lights
walk thru the pits and talk to other drivers
about setups
try to make friends with someone with a car like yours
most drivers are friendly and will give advice

you dont need a race car to race
you can have a stock Prius

i have wanted to drag since i was 8
i started 4 years ago at 43
i drive a ’67 Cutlass

the track should have a run what you brung nite
to help eliminate street racing

for basic apparel you’ll need
shoes not sandels / long pants / t-shirt must have sleeve
DOT approved helmet

basic for car tech NO LEAKS
2 throttle return springs
coolant catch bottle – one quart

as per NHRA rulebook

find your closest drag strip and try to get to a meet.

I would try to call the track and get them to give you some info in the specs on what you need to do and what the car needs to be able to race.

It’s going to be real hard at the start. Try to get to as many meets as you can. Cause practice Is the best thing.

You would probly know… But it casts a whole lot to keep racing, and if you want to get up into the higher more competitive categories, it only gets worse.

But stick to it. It’s an amazing sport and you meet the best people while doing something you love.

    Good luck :)

It helps to have a drag strip somewhere near your house. Without a place to race, you’re out of luck. I started with a 1982 Olds Cutlass I got for free. It was tired, but still ran. I started racing it in bone stock form on Test n Tune nights to just go have fun. I’ve been cutting off weight and doing some work to make it faster over the years, without spending a bunch of money. I might have a touch over $2,000 in the car. The engine is a stock 350. Many people race the cars they drive everyday. You don’t need a muscle car.
